Sixth graders learn about Hinduism in World Beliefs unit
As part of their World Beliefs unit in social studies, Tenacre’s sixth-grade class hosted two high school speakers from Nashua South High School (NH) for a panel discussion. The high school students are part of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, a spiritual, volunteer-driven fellowship dedicated to improving society through individual growth by fostering the Hindu values of faith, service, and global harmony. To prepare, Tenacre’s sixth graders generated questions for the informal Q&A. They asked the guests about core beliefs of Hinduism, the concept of karma, common misconceptions about Hinduism, and why they think it is important for people to learn about Hinduism. After the discussion, a sixth grader said: "I thought it was so interesting to hear firsthand from Tej and Yash about their experiences as Hindus and how their faith guides them in their daily lives, which is both similar and different from other religions we have studied." Sixth graders also learn about Islam, Christianity, and Judaism as part of this social studies unit.
